Ships Captain Charles Hilbourn 1789-1831 Philadelphia, PA possibly a murder victim in the Delaware Bay

This is my first post. I am not good at this, but I am just going to jump in. I have been struggling a long time to discover information on my GGGranmother Hannah Hilbourne Crowers. The family had a listing for her sister Catherine who married William Boston and her other sister, I have to try to find the name, was married to Samuel Painter.

Hannah was the first wife of John George Crowers. She died young, and John's second wife was Amanda Whitehead.

Today I had a breakthrough on genealogy bank.com. I tried a change in spelling for hilbourn, (Hilbourne, Hilburn, Hilborn Hilbourne Hilbirn) and also for Crowers (Crower, Crowers, Krauer, Grauer) and had success. I found Hannah's mortuary notice which stated that she was the daughter of "Captain Hilbourn". No first name. It wasn't a lot, but just knowing he was a captain was a breakthrough.

Then I found the mortuary notice of Mary Hilbourn, the relic of Captain Charles  Hilbourn. A first name!   The funeral was at Samuel Painters house. Well would you believe that one of Hannah and John Crowers' son was names Samuel Painter Crowers.

I then searched to find more information on the Captain  Lots of ships list Hilbourn as the captain. I believe it might be my Captain Hilbourn, but not many details are provided. So this information is "interesting" but not substantiated.

Then I found an article talking about the murder of Captain Charles Hilbourn. He was murdered by a member of his crew on the brig Mary on their way to Mansinilla near Cape Henlopen. He was buried in the Presbyterian Burial ground in Lewes, DE. A Robert Norris was executed by hanging for the crime, claiming it was an accident. No information was provided about the Captains Family.

I wonder what I should do next to make a connection? I am happy I made progress, but I am still missing information. If  anyone out there has any additional information on the Hilbourn line, I would love to hear from you.

Sharing my genealogy today with you!
